So...
 I attempted a super simple, modified version using what I already had in my craft stash. (I mean modified.)

This is what I came up with. I'm a treat bag topper addict. I definitely should have found some polka dot background paper. Oh well!

These were the materials I used along with a glue stick and a stapler. My printer was out of black ink, but I love the gray on the tags.

The original post used spider rings.  Because I didn't want to buy any supplies other than the candy kisses, I used my spider punch for the "bugs" inside the bag.

 

 

The final display for my team tomorrow for our weekly PLT meeting. I definitely need to ask Santa for a better camera. My 3.1 megapixel is letting me down.

Nicole is a relative of a former student I taught in kindergarten many years ago back home.  The mother of that sweet little boy,Josef, posted a link to Nicole's blog post on Facebook one night.  Out of curiosity, I decided to see what pencil skirts and noodle necklaces were all about. The day I clicked on that the post in Facebook, I became addicted to her blog.  She's a down to Earth gal who has great stories to share of being in the workplace and the memories she is making with her two kids and her hubby. My First Show of the Year

I can already read your mind. 

You're thinking," It's October, the year is almost over and this is your FIRST craft show of the year!"
I am excitedly and calmly replying, " Yes, Yes, Yes! "

This has been a SUPER busy year-a milestone birthday, marriage, tracking in and out of a classroom, managing a larger family( it comes with a lot I didn't expect), common core (need I say more), and some stressful health issues (I'll share later when it's all behind me.) 

I really needed to do something a little "crafty" to divert my attention off the whirlwind I'm in , so I decided to join a local church and become a small vendor in their Holiday Bazaar. 

 

 

This is my table. I love the how lime green and red look together.  Red is very eye catching and lime green is just plain cute. 

 

I bought the shelf at a Habitat for Humanity ReStore for 5 bucks.  I gave it a new life with a can of paint. It added height to my table.

 

 I love the giant snowflake.  Yes, it came from a Pinterest pin.  I love it.  It didn't sell, so I'll be making our family initial using my Cricut to place on the center for Christmas.  It will definitely be hanging on my front door soon. (Pictures in two months)

 



 

These chocolate nugget trays sold very well.

 

 

I sold all but one of these.

 

 

These sold out.  Wish I had made more.

 

Overall I did well. I didn't create many items over a buck due to the audience being Young at Heart and the State Fair was in full force. But I had fun~

Promoting Socialization and Togetherness in the Workplace

On Friday, the social committee of our school hosted a Pie-Fest.  Our committee is always brainstorming ways to bring the staff together to socialize and build camaraderie (comradery) and possibly talk about something other than "school stuff."  I'm not sure how it is in your workplace, but our lounge is hardly utilized for "lounging."  No resting here. It's usually just a quick stop to refrigerate your lunch, or heat your lunch in the microwave, or take a two second bathroom break.  I'm serious about the two seconds. You may pass someone coming or going, but hardly anyone ever sits at the table to enjoy the company of their coworkers.

The Pie-Fest was a success.  Staff members actually took a wide variety of pie samples, sat down at the tables and couches and enjoyed "non school related" conversation.  I heard conversations about football, spouses and kids going to college, and the upcoming holidays.  I actually heard laughing and saw lots of smiling faces.

Mission Accomplished.

We had five categories: store bought, homemade, meat, veggie, and surprise.  I entered the store bought category.  I have a valid excuse.  I made the ribbons  for each category so my energies were diverted in a different direction.

This pie was absolutely delicious- apple and cranberry! It got my vote.

 

Very creative apple and worm.  We hated to cut it.

Disappointed that it only received a third place ribbon.

This pie won third place in the store bought category.

 

This store bought pecan pie deserved best presentation in its' category.

 

 

Chicken Pot Pie- This didn't last long at all.

 

These were the ribbons I made using my Cricut (Locker Talk and Paper Doll Dress Up.)  I personally think the ribbons turned out GREAT~

Cotton Candy, Deep Fried Everything, and the Fair...Oh My!

The fair is in town!

I just love the fair!

I can't remember a year that I have not been to the State Fair.

Growing up, one Saturday in October after the fair opened, my family and I would always rise and shine early in the morning to make the two hour trip to the N.C. State Fair in the Capital City.  It was an all day event that we looked forward to each and every year.  We always parked on the same street, walked through the same gate, and basically took the same route through the fair grounds each and every year.  I could walk through the fair with my eyes closed. Literally!

Something changed four years ago.
I moved to a suburb right outside the Capital City.
So the two hour trip shrunk to a mere 20 minutes.

All those childhood routines of the fair changed.
Change can be hard.
And change can be GREAT!

I now go to the fair on the opening day.
I park in the lot belonging to the NC State Wolfpack located at the back of the fairgrounds. Who knew it existed?
I have no set routine.
I just go where the smells take me.
And I love it just the same.

This year I spotted these new interests. A booth depicting my Native American Heritage and "Maple."  Maple is the cousin of Ivy from Walt Disney World's Animal Kingdom.  Her make up was breathtaking and she moved with such grace and elegance.  Also, one booth had deep fried Girl Scout Cookies.  Wow! What will they come up with next?
